Project Category:

Project Location:
Richmond
Client:
Department of Education / Melbourne Girls College
Project Value:
$2 Million
Project Description:

Melbourne Girls College involved the refurbishment and extension to an underutilised old hall to create a Year 7 Learning Area. The facility was designed for optimum flexibility, with movable walls and a high tech focus with wireless and cable networking, ICT Smart Boards and video conferencing facilities. Innovative and flexible furniture is used to create a space that could support integrated project-based learning. A combination of formal and informal spaces was provided to enhance the social dimensions of learning. The design supports a wide range of teaching and learning methodologies.

Four learning areas, each accommodating two classes, form the core of the facility and these spaces are supported with meeting rooms, breakout spaces, resource areas, kitchen facilities and a staff area.

The space has maximised natural light, made provisions for acoustic control and implemented ESD features such as thermostatically controlled windows for ventilation and climate control.
