This design was prepared for Encompass Community Services. The brief was to develop a new educational facility in Leopold (The Paddock) for students of various backgrounds, age groups and abilities.
The facility is flexible enough to cater for a number of educational programs and future extensions. The surrounding site will be developed to educate users on the principals of permaculture.
The building design aims to include and engage students in the learning experience by blurring the boundaries between the inside and outside classrooms.
The building design is also in keeping with the principals of green architecture, adopting rammed earth walls, roof gardens, water storage tanks, solar panels, wind turbines, bio-swales, permeable paving, recycled materials, double glazing, passive hydrothermal air conditioning, passive cooling and cross ventilation.
